This is a total aside, but since Matt mentioned it I thought I'd add my two cents on Pokemon.
My brother plays (somewhat) competitively online (as in, not through a game cartridge) and he has the same complaint about decreased viability of older pokemon.
The later games in the series have introduced some serious stat inflation problems. Most of the pokemon from generations one and two have become nonviable due to new pokemon being released with similar (or better) move sets. Check
smogon for info on the (non-)competitive pokemon if you're interested.
The whole Fairy type really threw the competitive community a loop too. They thought they were all just normal, stone faced, lady killers. Turns out, some of them (I'm looking at you, Jigglypuff) were just fairies in disguise.
Ontopic: My steam account is woefully underfed. Currently, it's got the Gothic pack (Gothic 1, 2, expansion for 2, 3, expansion for three, and 4) and Portal. Oh, I have the whole orange box, but I never play TF2 and once you've played through Halflife a few times it gets boring.
I also have a game called Indigo Prophecy from a few years back. It was supposed to have a really great story, but unfortunately the game client kept crashing when I would get past the intro section. Maybe I should try to diagnose that issue at some point
Edit: Oh, and I've got DotA 2, but for the life of me I can't get interested in it. I'd rather play old school final fantasy than that ****.
