Actually "YOLO" is the opposite of carpe diem.

YOLO signifies an attitude of "F*** the consequences" where as carpe diem is all about making ones future better by making the correct (and active) choices today.

Clearly not opposites.

Not based off the literal translation, no. But as one is a Latin phrase that's an unfair assessment.

They represent polar attitudes of the future. So yes, they're opposites.

the consequences are important because you only live once, though! who cares about the consequences if you could revive/redo many times! feels somewhat wrong about that word/phrase. :S

Maybe my interpretation of YOLO is wrong then, but I always took it as "damn the consequences" as opposed to "I better think carefully about these consequences."

I agree, its illogical, but that was what I've taken the hashtag/saying to mean.
