Re: Revived YouTube Song Appreciation Thread

Rory Gallagher: kudos to toby for introducing me to him, but he's the best blues player in the history of ever; so here are a few links:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mucJMgdWZ ... re=related

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=z1zsRRt1FWE

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QvbGGgb87 ... re=related

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=33Jaodra7 ... re=related

all great blues pieces, some originals and some traditionals.

John butler Trio: A phenomenal band of australian musicians, one of the finest guitarists ever, with a great drummer and a wicked bassist (the double bass as well as normal bass):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=6VAkOhXIsI0 <--- an instrumental piece; the best!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=BsM0H2EdCm4 <-- portions of their song "betterman" from a live concert in Bonn in Germany; absolutely incredible with Double Bass solos, a good guitar solo and a wild drum solo. A must see!

Joe Satriani: one of the greatest guitarists who has ever lived (again a toby recommendation ofc):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=jGNgcRwKW4Q& ... ed&search= <--- a rockin' song, no doubt about it.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=MjNAeELQ_Z8 <--- just a wicked beat, a great screeching guitar, another must see!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pVLuxZUmO0A&feature=related <--- *that* is talent. Period.

Led Zeppelin: now there are so many great songs that LZ has produced that it's hard to narrow it down but this is without a doubt the greatest Led Zep song every written and performed. it's not traditional style of theirs, it's more acoustic and simple than the rock heavy and very driven pieces of their more usual fame but please give it a listen... it's truly astonishing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zISiQ6PqATI <--- it's called the "Bron Yr Aur Stomp" named after a hut in Wales where they retreated to write one of their albums and it's about their dog called "Strider"... the 'Stomp' portion of the name comes from the fact that the hut was infested with cockroaches and much 'stomping' occurred to keep the place semi clean... Enjoy!

thought of reviving this great thread

Probbebly one of the best guitar players arround:

i disagree. speed does not denote quality, and in fact, i dislike his method, his sound but can appreciate the skill it takes to play a guitar that quickly. i prefer something more melodic tbh but he is very talented.

I agree 100% Alci. I admire how fast he can play, he has practiced long and hard on his scales. BUT ... there is alot more to guitar playing that sweep picking and shredding 100 miles an hour for a whole song.

Look at Joe Satriani and you will see the difference.
