Indeed, it was American and it did turn out to be a disaster.
Just like the glazers seem to be doing to Manchester United.

Of course it was a disaster, Americans don't know dick about soccer, and even less about running sports teams.

There aren't, or weren't, as i recall many profitable sports franchises in the US :p

There are a number of profitable sports franchises in the US, and a wide range of competency among owners, obviously. In Tom Hicks you just happened to see one of the worst owners in American baseball go overseas to become one of the worst owners in British football, no real surprise there. The new owners are quite a different story, so we'll see how they fair, but I expect it to be quite different.
